Chalk Talk: Additional College Essays

Colleges require different kinds of essays with their applications. They may be of varying lengths. Some might be short answer questions asking things like, Why Do You Want to Attend This College? Bear in mind the kind of answers most students will give this prompt. Strive to be specific and direct, but also creative. A short personal narrative is likely to grab the readers’ attention. Maybe describe a visit to the college campus and your impressions, or interest in a specific program or major. Another popular prompt asks students to describe a formative educational experience. This is intended to demonstrate certain qualities, such as the applicant’s passion for learning. Another essay, which is often optional, asks about any changes in schools the student may have experienced. This is usually a brief essay, but can be expanded if the narrative is compelling.
