Talent District and Curriculum

The Phoenix-Talent School District uses a curriculum series that provides detailed learning objectives for all subjects at all grade levels. These objectives consist of the essential skills and knowledge that students should be developing, and then are enhanced by the hands-on applications during class and the critical thinking raised while learning new content and concepts. The curriculum also allows teachers from different subjects to take an integrated approach by focusing on common themes while emphasizing the subject-specific content within the given theme.

We currently cover the following Talent-area school district: Phoenix-Talent Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Talent District Curriculum

The elementary Language Arts curriculum brings together the key components of reading and writing for students to become familiar with. Students develop their comprehension skills and learn to identify the conflict and resolution in various literary genres. They write narratives and reports using correct capitalization, punctuation, verb tense, pronouns and learn how to use adjectives to describe nouns and conjunctions to connect longer phrases, or two complete sentences into one.

As students advanced, Language Arts skills require a continued increase of reading fluency and strengthening of comprehension skills, which include fact and opinion, and finding evidence that supports the conclusions they draw. Students also identify imagery parts, and analyze character traits in the stories they read. In high school, the level of analytic work becomes more rigorous and students are expected to respond critically to the fiction, non-fiction and works of media they are presented with.

Chalk Talk: What Is Bloom's Taxonomy?

Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning Domains, or Learning Objectives, is a structural approach to teaching and learning. The learning goals in the taxonomy, which is a framework, cover the mental, emotional and physical (cognitive, affective, and psychomotor) development of students and defines the stages by which learning is accomplished. In the taxonomy, the first stage of learning is attaining knowledge and then, in order to reach the highest levels of learning and understanding, students pass through the stages of comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. This is a stage approach whereby basic learning develops into the ability to evaluate and discern the validity in information. Many standardized assessments, which are designed to cover students from elementary through high school use this approach and are designed to measure a students development through these stages.
