EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Students are the most motivated to learn when they see the relevance of the material they are learning to the outside world. I like to get to know my students as individuals and cater my English lessons around their interests, while still teaching them the concepts they need to learn.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I studied English with a German minor at the University of Michigan, and I completed my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Michgan. I am currently certified to teach secondary English/Language Arts to grades 6-12 in Michigan.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have taught at the middle and high school levels for four years in public schools and charter schools. I also have four years of tutoring experience.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
In college, I played the clarinet in the Michigan Marching Band and in various campus symphonic bands. I also enjoy drawing and painting. In the past couple of years, I have taken up knitting and can knit scarves. Additionally, I enjoy reading and writing for fun (NaNoWriMo Winner, 2012).
