A pronoun is a word which is used in place on noun or nouns. The replaced noun is called the antecedent of the pronoun. Pronoun is used very often to avoid repetition of noun. She, he, they, I, him, her, them, us, we are common pronouns.

Example:

In place of: Genelia makes good cakes.

She makes good cakes.

In the above sentence pronoun ‘She’ replaced the noun ‘Genelia’. So, ‘Genelia’ is antecedent of ‘She’ in the above sentence.

Below are common types of pronouns:

Subjective Pronouns: are used as the subject of a sentence. It performs the action of the verb. Examples: he, she, I, we, you, they, and it.

He is cooking.

Objective Pronouns: are used as the object of the sentence. It receives the action of the verb. Examples: it, me, us, you, them, him and her.

Take him out.

Possessive Pronouns: are used to tell ownership. Examples: his, hers, mine, theirs, ours and yours.

The white dress is mine.

Demonstrative Pronouns: are used to point out a noun. Examples: this, that, these and those.

These are the pictures nice.

Interrogative Pronouns: are used to ask question. Examples: what, where, which, who, and whom.

Who is at the door?

Indefinite Pronouns: are used to refer to a person or a thing. Examples: some, few, all, each, both, any, many, neither, none, several, some and somebody.

Something is burning.

Relative Pronouns: are used to introduce a clause or part of a sentence that describes a noun. Examples: that, which, who and whom.

Invite the friends who like bowling.

Reflexive Pronouns: are used to refer back to the subject of the sentence. Examples: himself, herself, myself, themselves, ourselves and yourself.

I complete the project myself.

Intensive Pronouns: emphasizes the antecedent. Examples: himself, herself, myself, themselves, ourselves and yourself.

She herself wanted to go for the trip.
