Probability was introduced in seventeenth century by two French mathematicians, Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fermat.  Probability deals with the likelihood of occurrence of an event. If can be expressed as a number between 0 and 1. It can also be expressed as equivalent fraction or percentage.  An event with Probability of one is certain to occur and if the probability of an event is zero it is an impossible event.

Below are some important terms related Probability:

–          An experiment is a situation that leads to result.

–          An outcome is the result of an experiment.

–          An event is one or more outcomes of an experiment.

Let us understand these terms with an example of tossing a coin. In this, tossing a coin is an experiment which has two possible outcomes. The coin would either land on head or tail. Landing on head is one event and landing on tail is another event.

The following formula is used to find the probability of an event:

Probability is used in statistics, economics, astronomy, business, weather studies, space research, genetics and various other fields of life
