About Me
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe in answering students’ questions directly. However, I try not to state what they already know but rather to let them work on the solutions to the problems as much as they can by themselves.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and a Master of Arts degree in zoology. I have been working on becoming certified to teach math in middle school. I have taken seven education classes and a statistics class towards this goal.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have done GED tutoring for 9 years, mainly in math. Most of it was in a classroom, but some of it was private tutoring. Many students have indicated that they thought I explained concepts well. I have tutored junior high students for about 2 years, mainly in math, and I have tutored fifth grade students for 2 years, mainly in math. I taught for 2 years in the General Biology labs at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I was nominated for the 2007 HERO Awards in Columbia for my GED tutoring. When I was younger, I volunteered in hospitals and nursing homes. I was elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges when I was in graduate school.
