Making Science and Math problems interesting to the student is important since they can learn much faster and enjoy the learning process more if they are actually interested in learning it. Also, guiding the students at they themselves solve the problems would make for a more effective learning method because they will actually remember how to do the problems when they have to do it on their own ( for example, during tests!).
