SchoolTutoring Academy’s certified tutors prepare specialized lessons for students based on their state or provincial curriculum. Our tutors have in-classroom experience and have worked with students with varying abilities and learning styles. Our tutoring programs are in accordance with the guidelines and expectations of the Grade 1 curriculum. At the Grade 1 level, our program will focus on two major topics: Language Arts and Mathematics.

1st Grade Language Arts Tutoring Programs
Depending on your child’s strengths and opportunities, emphasis will be placed on reading, writing or oral communication. By the end of Grade 1, your child should be able to:
- Read a variety of literary, graphic, and informational texts and understand the meaning
- Communicate their understanding and express their opinion orally to an audience
- Generate and organize ideas to form complete sentences
Your child will engage in a variety of reading passages, communication activities and creative writing exercises. In addition to working on exercises, the student will benefit from the help and encouragement of our energetic tutors. Our tutors will ensure that your child stays focused and on track to meet their learning goals.
1st Grade Math Tutoring Program
Below is a short summary of the fundamental concepts our Grade 1 math tutoring programs will cover. By the end of Grade 1, your child should be able to:
With the help of SchoolTutoring Academy’s YoungStars tutors, students will perfect each of these skills. Your child’s tutor will teach using a variety of visual approaches to represent addition, subtraction and mental arithmetic.
- Order the whole numbers from 0 to 50
- Add and subtract numbers to 20
- Count by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s
- Count money up to 20 cents
- Tell time up to the nearest hour
- Identify simple two-dimensional and three-dimensional figures
- Draw pictographs to represent given data
