Preparing for College/ University 150 150 Teaching Staff

If you’re like most high school students, preparing for college can be very stressful. While a few students knew from an early age what profession they wanted to get into, the majority of students struggle to determine what field they want to pursue, much less a specific job.

Below is a list of things to think about in preparing for college applications.

How to choose your program:

In order to determine that program that you want to apply for, you will first need to determine what field you want to pursue. Are you a history buff, science enthusiast or business guru? To get a sense of what program suits you, take a variety of classes in high school. This will help you determine the subjects that you enjoy and excel in. Use this to determine the programs you want to pursue for college.

How to choose your university?

Each university specializes in a field. The major weight on the school that you choose should focus on the program that you’re applying for. For example, if you’re applying to business school, eliminate colleges that specialize in science.

You will also need to decide if you want to move away to stay at home and what extracurricular activities are provided by the university. Other things to look up are stats on college graduation rates, college employment rates and ratings of current students and alumni.

Attending university fairs and open houses will provide all of this information to you and give you an accurate sense of at atmosphere around each college.

How to choose your career? College Preparation 2

In determining your career, there are many things to keep in mind.

  • Do you want to help others, be on the cutting edge of innovation, be involved in policy or any combination of these?
  • Do you want to own your own business or work for someone else?
  • Do you want to travel?
  • What type of environment would you like to work in?

In order to answer these questions, take part in different extracurricular activities – including volunteering. This will enable you to understand your likes and dislikes.

Above lists a few questions to ask yourself in high school when thinking about college preparation. While this list is by no means comprehensive, it provides a main focus to keep in mind while planning your steps to college.

Good luck finding the door to the new world.
