EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Every person has the capability of learning and mastering any type of curriculum, given that they are willing to practice it and seek guidance from others who can help them, such as teachers and tutors. I don’t believe that there is such thing as a stupid question. Often times, a student is afraid to ask for help because they may feel embarrassed for not having grasped a certain concept, or think that they simply will never be able to understand that concept.
I like to instill confidence in my students who struggle with those kinds of thoughts. My favorite characteristic about education is that, given the resources, it can be achieved by anyone.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I went to elementary school on the Camp Pendleton Military Base in Southern California. My family moved to Temecula, CA, where I attended middle school and high school. I graduated from high school in 2008, in the top 15% of my class. I graduated with my bachelor’s of science degree in Molecular Cell & Developmental Biology from the University of California Santa Cruz in Spring 2013. My dream is to achieve my Medical Degree within the next 6 years.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I first began tutoring as a junior in high school through a club I was a member of called PEER Leaders. I tutored in all K-12 math and science subjects during lunch hours. In addition, I privately tutored 3 high school students in algebra or geometry at a public library after school once a week. During my first two years of college, I volunteered at the I.M.A.G.I.N.E. program as a K-12 tutor for children who lived in the Beach Flats Community, a low-income neighborhood located in Santa Cruz. I currently tutor all subjects at a K-12. I’m also an online tutor to students who are planning to take the ACT and/or SAT.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
During college, I became a part of the live music scene in Santa Cruz as a promoter. I enjoyed organizing various members of the community for the purpose of creating a safe place for people to dance. I recently started practicing the art of yoga and meditation. I also enjoy hiking, biking, strength training, and cooking for my friends and family.
STANDARDIZED TEST RESULTS
When I took the SAT, I scored a 680 on Critical Reading, a 730 on Mathematics, and a 700 on Writing.
