Polygons are closed geometric figures made with straight lines.

 

 

 

 

 

Sum of interior angels

The sum of the interior angles of a convex polygon of ‘n’ sides is given as:

S = (n – 2) × 180°

Examples:

Triangle has 3 sides, sum of interior angles is (3 – 2) × 180° = 180°

Pentagon has 5 sides, sum on interior angles is (5 – 2) × 180° = 3 × 180° = 540°

 Interior angle

The measure of interior angel of a regular polygon with ‘n’ sides is given by sum of the interior angles divided by the number of side.

Example:

The sum of interior angles of a hexagon is (6 – 2) × 180° = 720°

Measure of each angle of regular hexagon = 720/6 = 120°

Exterior angle

The interior angle and exterior angle add up to 180°.

Interior angel + Exterior angel = 180°

Exterior angle = 180° – Interior angle

Example:

Interior angle of a pentagon measures 108°.

Exterior angle of a pentagon = 180° – 108° = 72°
