An adverb is defined as a word that can modify a verb, an adjective, another adverb, a phrase, or a clause. Adverbs typically answer questions such as how?, in what way?, when?, where?, and to what extent? An adverb indicates manner, time, place, cause, or degree.
Most, but not all adverbs end in –ly. Also, not all words that end in -ly are adverbs.
Examples:
- My room is upstairs.
- Finish your work fast.
- I often see him in the park.
- The bank will remain closed today.
- I have never been to Canada.
