The subject that I learned most from was Health Science. Everyone would usually take it just to get easy credits but I actually wanted to learn. The first couple weeks were amazing! I was learning information that would help me later in life. The first year of class I got CPR certified and I was hooked. I joined the Health Science club that year and became involved. I got to compete in a state competition and I was exhilarated from the event. I was determined to get into the second year of Health Science. At the time, I didn’t know that this class was going to show me what I wanted to do the rest of my life. In the first semester, I learned about the anatomy of a person including the bones, muscles, and different systems. This helped me in college when I had to take anatomy and physiology. The second semester was the best part of the class. This is where students would be able to job shadow. This means going to a hospital or a different health care facility and watch people work and mostly just see how a hospital operates. I learned so much this semester just about basic administration of health care and how a hospital functions. That year when I went to compete with my peers as a team, we got third place and was rewarded with a spot to compete at nationals. My event taught me about teaching and how much work goes into something as small as a lesson plan to teach little kids how to wash their hands. I loved being in the hospital so much, that I decided to devote my time in the summer to volunteer at the hospital. I ended up fitting over more than 50 hours at the hospital between sports, vacations, and the nationals trip. I am now in college pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. By enrolling in my Health Science class sophomore year, my goals to achieve in life were set. Not only did this subject help me determine what I want to do with my life, it let me learn so much about people, health care, and most important, myself.
