I have many who have helped me as I have went through my adolescent life. I am as one may call “special needs” but I do not show it on the outside. I am a unique, beautiful, individual and I am who I am. However, as many may not know it, I have a learning disability. This disability may sometimes get me down and make me feel as though I am less than equal, in comparison to everyone else my age. This disability has been known to cause me anxiety and bring me down into depression.
I have been able to cope with this disability because I have an awesome teacher and mentor whom I will acknowledge as C.B. In my previous and current high school year this teacher has helped to lift me up and overcome my struggle of, not only the dreadful subject of math, but of being proud of who I am. She has taught me not to be ashamed of myself, to move on in life, and to be positive! She has taught me not to have, as she calls it, a “Marlitude attitude”. C.B. has helped me to learn and understand those horrible assignments that I would fail otherwise. She gets me! She also helps me be proud of myself, no matter my super cute height of 4’10”, my speech impediment, my hearing loss or my depression. I am lifted up and make it through each and every school day because C.B. shares the most uplifting quotes, has given me the nicknames of “nugget” and “MJ” (because she wants to change my name), and we can always be sarcastic with each other.
She is not only my favorite teacher, but also now one that I consider to be a best friend! She has made a huge impact in my life by making me happy and believing that no matter how small I may be, no matter my learning disabilities … I am mighty and I can do hard things!
