Many of us have gone through obstacles that has been so different for us to overcome and sometimes want to give up but soon realize that giving up is never a solution to a problem. As a student who was diagnosis with learning disabilities, I’ve always found it difficult to keep up with the rest of the class and needed assistance with completing assignments. Since I had a difficult time learning in school, I was placed in an exceptional learning class that I needed to attend for two hours each day during my elementary school. I felt so bad because I didn’t have the perfect grades and had nothing to be proud of. There were teachers in my ESE (Exceptional Student Education) class that made sure that I received the help that I needed but the one that believed that I am capable of learning like the other students was Dr. Lynch. She never doubted me or put me in the back of the class like my other teachers have done, she always made sure that I retained every information that I received.

Even though it was difficult for me to catch up with the rest of my classmates, I was still determined to achieve my goals. We started off listing all my strengths and weaknesses so she can know which topics that I would really have to work hard on. She also decided to tutor me after school so I won’t be left behind. I didn’t like the idea of having tutoring after school because it would take away a lot of free time but I still decided to go because I value my education so much and wanted something to be proud of. I know that if I got the extra help that Dr. Lynch offered, I would be one of the smartest student in the class because practicing always makes you better at what you’re doing.

After months of tutoring and practicing, I was getting a lot better. My math, reading, writing, and communication skills improved. Math wasn’t my best subject and it still isn’t but I am proud to say that I’m receiving passing grades in that subject. Unlike other teachers, Dr. Lynch has never doubted me but believed that I can be successful like my classmates. I used to believe that I will never achieve anything but now I believe that I can do anything, only if I put my mind into it.
