As I crawled to the finish line of seventh grade, I had struggles with my grades. Well, to be more specific, with focusing on school rather than my largely important and only growing social life. It was a time that I could have let go of priorities. To this end, I had a teacher who decided to mentor me. She understood the situation and how important it was that I keep my friends close, but she also helped me understand the importance of my grades and school work. Explaining how your colleges would be determined by your grades which in turn determines the type of job you get when you graduate collage. She also would ramble on about how I was young and how the world was in my hands, how there was nothing that wasn’t achievable even though I may have fallen behind. She helped me develop study habits, keep a calendar where I put homework, and even explained how time management would be my best friend for the remainder of my life. Through the remainder of the year I found that I not only could juggle school and a social life but also sports. I finished seventh grade with fewer missing assignment and set my self on a wonderful track to be successful throughout the rest of my school career. To this day I use those study habits and time management skills to keep my grades up and pick my priorities. These were some of the most valuable lessons I may have ever learned and I hope to never lose sight of their importance. I’m still able to visit and catch up with this teacher, what a wonderful woman. Teachers have so much passion for their students and it is amazing that they are able to touch so many lives with their beautiful footprints. Five years later, I’m taking hard courses and succeeding with above a 4.0. Her lessons impacted my future.
