Ever since middle school, History has been the most boring subject ever talked about in school, well at least for me. From the boring lectures to the dull teachers, I would dread the time of day when I had to go to that class. I never thought that anything would change the way I felt about that particular subject.
High school came and as much as my teachers in middle knew I despised History, my 8th grade teacher decided to put me in History Honors my freshman year. When I saw my schedule, I was flourished with anger. I guess my teachers thought I could handle it even if I did not.
As time went on, I decided to roll with the punches and try my best in the class. Taking an honors class is really fast pace so I adapted to keeping up with the topics and assignments. My teacher was very intrigued by the topics which had made the students more engaged in what we were talking about. I had grown a close relationship with my teacher so he knew when I was falling back or did not understand a topic that well. My World History teacher, Mr. Scritt, after the lesson was over, would sit down with me and give me different techniques to understanding the topic. He would tell me to write down every thing that seemed important and just remember key ideas like dates and people. After a while, I started using the skills more during the actual lesson and my grades prospered significantly in that class.
Whether it is English, Math, History, or another subject, a teacher that is engaged with the topic can make a difference on how well you do in a class. As well as a good teacher, good note skills can help you comprehend the information more too. None of the subjects studied in school are impossible to understand but every student needs to have an open mind and motivation to do better in class.
