During my Sophomore year of high school, I struggled with Algebra 2. During class, my teacher, Ms. Bricker would do her best to teach each lesson to the entirety of our class. In most instances, I wouldn’t fully understand each concept. So when test and quiz days would come around, sometimes I wouldn’t always get the best of grades. In one instance, I even got a D on an assessment. My parents, being tough on me because they expect nothing but good grades from me were not too keen on this constantly happening. Being stressed out, I decided I would see Ms. Bricker during my own time for help. I would go to her classroom before and after school and during study hall periods. During these one on one lessons, I realized that this is the best way I learn. These one on one sessions allowed me to ask as many questions as I deemed necessary and helped me to understand the concepts fully. On top of these sessions, Ms. Bricker had a policy that really aided me in keeping my grades up. That policy was an assessment retake policy which allowed students to retake assessments if they came in and did extra work on a unit to earn a grade of up to 75%. When I got below a 75%, I would take advantage of this policy to bring my grades up and boost them overall in the class. So, not only would I be helping my grades by retaking assessments and doing the work for them but, I was also helping myself by developing a further understanding of the concepts that I had not previously understood. By seeing my teacher for help, I managed to maintain a class grade above a B which helped me avoid too much stress from the class. So, I owe a huge thank you to Ms. Bricker for helping me with my understanding of Algebra and for helping me as a student.
