We are taught many, many things in schools, and will often never really use most of them again. So then why do we learn about the Old Time West but not current events? Why do we not strive to learn about whats going on in our real world lives so that way as we age we are informed and understanding of the flaws within global events and situations and begin to change them. We need to learn more about things that effect us within our every day lives as we get older. How do you trade stocks? How do you raise a child after you decide you are ready enough to have one? How do you preform basic first aid? How do you recognize mental illness and disease with preventable causes? How do you buy a house and what is a mortgage? What are my basic human rights? And what are the laws of the country I live in? Students must be given a chance for the future. Students need to learn about the things they can and will eventually have to encounter within their lives. So give students a running start. Give them the information and knowledge that they need to handle these situations instead of teaching them hundreds of different mathematical equations.
The world wants change yet is not providing younger generations with the skills and knowledge that will bring that change on. Everyday of our lives effects us, yet we must evolve so that we can effect everyday of our lives.
