Equivalent fractions are the fraction that have same value or represent the same part of a whole, even though they look different. If we multiply or divide both numerator and denominator by the same number, the value of fraction remains same.
If we multiply both the numerator and denominator of 1/2 by 2 we get an equivalent fraction 2/4.
If we again multiply 2/4 by 2 we get another equivalent fraction 4/8.
We can find equivalent fractions by division also. Divide both numerator and denominator by a common factor as shown below.
Both 12 and 18 are divisible by 2 resulting into 6/9. Though 6 is divisible by 2 but not 9. We should always divide both the numbers by same number. So, both 6 and 9 are divisible by 3 resulting into 2/3.
