Growing up, I struggled almost every subject since I was in middle school. Other than math and art, I always struggled with English, Social Studies, and Science. Because of this, I took English as Second Language (ESL) during the day and I stayed after school each week to get extra help.
I never really talked during middle school because I was scared of opening up. Now that I think about it, I believe the tutoring helped me with opening up to people more because I had more opportunity to talk to my teacher and other people. It also helped me academically to understand more with the assignments in my classes.
Now that I’m a senior and although I still can’t communicate with people very well, I think I’m doing way better compared to when I was in middle school. It’s unbelievable how well I’m doing since I came to high school. I’m more confident now that I can open up to people and have a conversation with them. This helped with my academics also because I was able to ask questions if I don’t understand something in class and I was also motivated to study for the tests and quizzes. This led to 3.8 GPA in 9th grade and 10th grade. I switched school for my junior year and although I still had some difficulty with making friends and keeping up my GPA, it was still above 3.0. In my opinion, high school that I’m attending currently is way harder than the school I used to go to. I think it helped me prepare for college because during my junior year, I had many assignments and essays I had to complete in short periods of time. My English class helped me a lot from that year because it was very challenging and got many assignments such as essays and seminars and was able to keep up my grade above B all year.
In conclusion, a lot of things helped me with my struggles in school. Tutoring helped me a lot both academically and socially which I were able to receive good grades in high school. I’m thankful that I came this far because back then I received bad grades and weren’t confident enough to ask questions if I’m not understanding something.
