The punctuation mark colon (:) consists of two equally sized dots centered on the same vertical line.

 Uses o f the Colon (:)

 1.       To introduce a list.

 Example:

 A box has blocks of five colors: red, green, blue, yellow and white.

2.       To show example, rule or explanation preceding an independent clause.

Example:

The hostel has a rule: no outsider allowed on weekdays.

3.       In memos.
