EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that every student is a capable individual who needs a unique, caring and stimulating educational environment in order to reach their fullest potential.
In my own personal experience as a student, as well as in my experience working with children, I believe this is accomplished in two-fold. The first step is to ensure the student feels safe and free to take risks. This is achieved by using positive reinforcement as well as opening a dialogue in which the student can express the efficacy of teaching techniques.
The second step is to instill a sense of confidence in the student. This is done through small, attainable, short-term goal setting so that the student can get immediate results and map their progress.
I believe that when these two conditions are met, the student will have a much easier time learning the material.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I am currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. I have extensive knowledge of and practice in academic research and writing. I have also completed two and a half years in the Biology program at the University of British Columbia, before transferring into Political Science.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have experience teaching piano and horseback riding to school age children. I have also worked at a local daycare, programming and implementing curriculum for children ages 5 to 10.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Currently I am completing my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training. This training has taught me to provide inspired support as well as technical guidance to students, within and beyond the practice of yoga. I have also cultivated patience and self-awareness as both a teacher and a student. Other extracurricular activities I focus on are internet marketing, with a special focus on building an IELTS training website for ESL students.
