Bakersfield District and Curriculum

The schools in Bakerfield use curriculum adopted and developed by the state Board of Education which provides a comprehensive framework for the teaching and learning within each subject. For Math and Language Arts, the curriculum is known as the Common Core Standards. This curriculum presents the standards of learning within the subjects and explains the skills required to bring them about.

For instance, the Common Core Standards describe how the Language Arts coursework will cover reading of fiction and informational texts, writing for a range of purposes and the writing process, and critical thinking, speaking and listening skills. The sub-topics of vocabulary development, reading comprehension and analysis, writing and revising are then detailed. This allows teachers to create objectives that correspond to the curriculum and also is in alignment with statewide assessments.

California Tutors

I believe that all students learn in different ways and my job as a teacher is to find that way. I think that every student can succeed if they have the right guidance and know how. I believe that encouragement and hard work are two key elements to success and I plan on showing each and every student it’s possible.
A lot of math students have holes in their learning that cripple them from mastering higher math and once those are found and taught the students can soar. Finally, when math is presented in a way that shows the connections from one math strand to another and to real life, students have much more success in solving math problems than if they are just taught algorithms.
Learning happens in a number of different forms. Additionally, I believe that learning takes place when students are generally interested in the material or when they’re inspired by their instructor/teacher to strive to become better.

Chalk Talk: Effective Time Management

As a student, managing your time is very important to ensure you are successful in your courses while also being able to have time for yourself. If you are able to develop good time management habits during school years, this trait is definitely beneficial in the when you finish school and have various tasks to complete. Here is a tip to get started on your successful journey towards your goals.

As you may know, there are a variety of planners that one can use to manage their time. Sometimes using multiple planners help visualize how your days, weeks, or months, will be spent. From personal experience I enjoy using a daily and monthly planner separately. The monthly calendar includes all my deadlines whether it’s for school or regular errands whereas my daily planner includes more specific tasks to complete for specific periods of the day. This way you can manage how much time you spend on each task. This also proves to be very efficient as you are able to sense trends in how long you work on different tasks.
