When writing an essay, it can seem daunting. But if you break it down into steps, it becomes far more manageable.

Step One: Decide on your topic.

Even if your topic has been chosen for you, you may not be ready to move on to the step.
First, consider what kind of paper you are being asked to produce. Is it going to be an overview of your topic or is it going to be a thorough analysis of your topic? If it is meant to be an overview of the topic than it is probably time to move on. If it is meant to be a specific analysis, make sure your topic is equally as specific

Step Two: Prepare an outline.

Use this step to put your ideas on paper in an organized fashion. Don’t be afraid to add any and all relevant ideas you have to your outline. The structure you create here can change by the time the essay is complete and ideas can be both added and removed.

Step Three: Write your thesis statement.

The thesis statement tells the reader what you are going to be discussing in your essay.
Your thesis statement will have two parts. The first part should state the topic and the second should state the point of the essay or simply list the three major concepts you will be discussing.

Step Four: Write the body.

Start by writing down your main ideas in complete sentences. Next, write down each of your supporting points leaving space between each of them. In the empty space add specific details to expand on your ideas. These specific details can be in the form of further description, explanation or discussion.

Step Five: Write the introduction.

You want your introduction to grab the reader’s attention and give them an idea of the focus of the essay. Possible ways to do this is to provide a piece of surprising information, an anecdote which is a story to illustrate a point, or summary information which gradually leads the read to your thesis.

Step Six: Write the conclusion.

The conclusion should provide emphasis to your major points and leave the reader with your final perspective.

Step Seven: Reread the completed work from start to finish.

While rereading your essay ensure that you have followed all the instructions provided to you.
Also check the order of your paragraphs. Do you start with the strongest paragraph, end with the second strongest and have the weakest in the middle?
Lastly, check your writing. Does your essay logically make sense? Do the sentences flow smoothly from one another? Have you checked all of your spelling and grammar?

Step Eight: Prepare a final draft.

Congratulations now your essay is complete!
