The top three characteristics I am looking for in a college are 1) Strong Psychology Department 2) Good Location and 3) Inclusiveness of All.

1) The college of my choice must have a Psychology Department with a strong Reputation. Why? Because I am passionate about pursuing a career in Psychology where I can help people help themselves. But first I need to be taught the most effective ways to do this. I believe I can have a positive effect on the health and well-being of others and I can only do this if I am equipped with the very best methods and education provided.
2) The college of my choice will not be too far from my home where my family remains. I am very close to my Mom, siblings, and niece and I never want to neglect them just to pursue my own career. I think a 3 hour car ride would be the furthest I’m willing to relocate for college. This will still allow me to come home for important events and just in case I get home sick. I would also prefer my college location to be not too far from a city where I can hopefully find a part time job to help pay for college and also an internship which could lead to a fulfilling career once I graduate.
3) The college of my choice must be inclusive of all nationalities, cultures, socio-economic status, ideas and ideologies. When I visit, I don’t want to see people that only look like me; I want to see people that represent the world. I want to learn about different cultures, and find opportunities to interact, engage, and be inspired by others on campus as well as the faculty I will be with for four years. I would like them to become my second family.

If all three characteristics listed above are met, this college would be the absolute best fit for me, although I believe it’s never ALL about me. The Psychology Department will help me help others; the location of my school will help me not forget about others; and the inclusiveness of my college will help me interact, learn, and grow to love others.
