If I could choose my college’s mascot, it would be a fox. I know typically a fox is given a bad reputation. But if you think about it they are very intelligent and cunning. As a matter of fact a fox is known to represents wisdom and teaching, sure it may be seen as the trickster but I think that shows it’s remarkable intelligence. A fox as a “spirit animal” a fox literally is seen as a teacher. After all what would a school be without it’s teachers. Nothing because without the people there to give knowledge no knowledge is being gained.
I know most people would want to pick something big or tough or even fierce. But as seen very often in day to day life strength is not everything it will not always help you, and a school is there to promote learning and wisdom as it is so shouldn’t our mascot represent that as well? I have always been known to think outside the box and I believe the “box” our mascot ideas are in are all representations of something strong like a bull, a panther, or a tiger. But in my experience being smart and able to access your surroundings and learn from them is much more helpful. I wonder why I only found three schools that use a fox as their mascot, and I wonder what made them choose it.
In conclusion I feel like the fox not only best represents what a school stands for but proves a point that wisdom and intelligence lasts and is much better than just being strong. I believe in making a stand against generalizations sure brute strength may help you for a time but it withers and goes away. Where as wisdom lasts forever.
