Writing a test is nerve-wracking. Sometimes you don’t know how to answer the question or sometimes, you simply run out of time. There are some ways that can help prevent those things from happening. Here are some tips on what to do during a test to minimize the occurrence of those events.
– Glance over your test once before you start. That way, you’ll know what to expect and how to pace yourself appropriately.
– Pace yourself well. A general rule of thumb is a minute per mark. So if a question is worth 2 marks, try and spend around 2 minutes on it.
– Read instructions carefully, make sure you know what the question is asking.
– If you’re unsure or confused about a question, ask the teacher to clarify.
– Do easy questions first. This can help boost your confidence for future questions.
– Try and do the questions that are worth the most first. That’s where the majority of the marks are!
– Skip questions you’re stuck on and come back to them again later. Don’t waste time on a question you don’t know when you can be using that time to do a question you do know. Come back to it and it might come to you later.
– ALWAYS answer ALL the questions! Especially if it’s multiple choice or true/false, you still have a chance of getting it right even if you don’t know the answer. Even if they aren’t the teacher can still give you part marks.
– Check over your answers after you’re finished. You never know what silly mistakes you have made that you may catch. It’s always good to double (or even triple!) check your answers if you have enough time to.
Again, these are tips for during you take a test. They are to help compliment the studying and preparation you have done before hand. Hopefully, with these tips, you’ll become a better test taker!
